The other co-founder, Michael Szklarski, is a seasoned modder known for creating GT-MP, a multiplayer mod for GTA 5. On LinkedIn, he describes Readym as addressing one of gaming’s biggest gaps: fewer than 1% of games offer robust user-generated content multiplayer, yet those that do—like Minecraft, GTA 5, and Fortnite—have dominated the industry for years.

ReadyCode previously utilized their platform to develop WukongMP, a multiplayer mod for Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong. Following this, they secured $3 million in seed funding from investors including Sony’s Innovation Fund and Lifelike Capital. According to Szklarski’s LinkedIn, Readym now features a “universal data layer” tailored for Unity and Unreal Engine games, making Oblivion Remastered a natural candidate given Bethesda’s rich modding community.

Despite this backing and ambitious goals, questions arise about ReadyCode’s revenue model. Modding often exists in a legal gray area, complicating monetization without alienating players or facing publisher pushback. ReadyCode’s website states that both the multiplayer mods and the hosting platform will remain free to access. However, they foresee server owners potentially monetizing through optional subscriptions, cosmetic items, and other community-driven funding methods in the future.

A ReadyCode spokesperson shared: “We’re investing heavily in developing the platform and SDK, so for server owners who choose to monetize, we will charge a platform fee. We believe our offerings will provide significant value compared to other solutions, demonstrated by the quality, tools, and support we deliver. Importantly, access to the mods and platform will always be free.”

They also stressed they will never force monetization, aiming to grant server owners maximum freedom if they decide to pursue it.

Still, with monetization optional and non-mandatory, some skepticism remains. When asked if ReadyCode envisions partnering with publishers to offer official mod support akin to mod.io’s work on Baldur’s Gate 3 and STALKER 2, the company’s future direction remains a point of interest.

Collaborating directly with developers and publishers is our preferred path,

as it connects us best with players through the games themselves and official communities.

Server owners deserve the freedom to bring their creative visions to life,

and we aim to empower them to do just that.

Regarding legal concerns, we work closely with developers and publishers on our projects.

For our Black Myth: Wukong mod, we maintain direct communication with Game Science,

even receiving early patch notices to synchronize our updates.

We emphasize that our mods require legitimate game copies,

and we do not support piracy.

While some publishers pursue legal action,

others recognize the value in engaging with creators and modders,

and actively encourage it.

We seek to avoid conflict by initially partnering with UGC-friendly publishers,

like Bethesda, whose licenses explicitly support modding.

We believe our model offers direct and indirect benefits to developers,

and as we demonstrate its potential, more will see the opportunity.

Bethesda's mod-friendly approach made Oblivion Remastered a fitting choice for our next multiplayer mod,

even as its modding activity has slowed significantly post-launch.

Compared to the steady flow of mods for Skyrim Special Edition or the original Oblivion,

Oblivion Remastered has seen fewer recent additions.

Yet, we are confident our multiplayer mod can rejuvenate the modding scene,

sparking a renewed wave of creativity and engagement for the game.

Supporting Modding Revival

Working with the original game's engine brings technical challenges, but we are equipped to address them.

The remastered version has introduced changes that disrupted the existing mod landscape.

Our expertise in creating developer tools and SDKs positions us to mend this fracture and empower creators.

Observing mods like FiveM for GTA 5 revealed their transformative potential.

They unlocked sophisticated cooperative roleplay, guild systems, and persistent economies—experiences beyond single-player scope.

We aim to ignite a similar creative revolution for Oblivion Remastered.

This year, we will launch a partnership initiative to support grassroots multiplayer modding teams.
