Thousands of Protestant Orange Order members have marched through Portadown, Northern Ireland, ahead of a court ruling on a ban on a separate parade through a mainly Catholic area. The marches have long fuelled sectarian tensions, with a previous parade in September blocked by Catholic protesters.

Police in Albania’s capital, Tirana, were filmed beating a protester lying on the ground. Local media say they were left unconscious. Journalists and other protesters rushed to check on them and called for an ambulance.
